What Eden Did Next is a formulaic read which was predictable in every sense and enjoyable if you like that. The story is exceptionally well paced throughout, well written, and the characters are very realistic. Sheila O'Flanagan sets up the perfect backdrop for small neighbourhood gossip in an Irish town from the onset. However, the novel as a whole lacked some boldness. Nothing keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters never do anything unexpected or different; nothing dramatic or surprising happens; the bedroom scenes, while not at all necessary to have them as "open", were so skimmed over on the page it was necessary for this reader to go back in one chapter to see when they had sex because it was completely missed; and the climax of the book fell a little flat.ISBN 9781472272713 (464 pages)
